who I am

sad angel

I like writing and storytelling (out of passion and stubbornness) and I have a past full of interesting digressions.
This is my “third life”, I spent the first ones doing other things, but don’t be alarmed: no reincarnation.
Here I've reopened my old blog, where I share thoughts, stories, and reflections on anything that interests me. Meanwhile, I'm running a podcast called OMBRE ITALIANE ( ITALIAN SHADOWS), where I delve into history and its shadowy areas, especially those of the 20th century, a century that's short only for those in a hurry.
At a certain point I even got it into my head to write two books, L'Elmo di Scipio and Basilicata Terra di Mezzo , a clear sign that, when a digression takes up too much space, it ends up becoming a project.
I always try to find unlikely connections, because that's the beauty of writing: discovering that things are all a little more connected than they seem.

A novel!

Final cover_fronte soro_l elmo by scipio.jpg

It is a novel about friendship, memory and terrorism.

It sounds heavy, but don't be scared: there's laughter, first loves, and that feeling of being young and confused that never really goes away.

We are in Cagliari, Sardinia, at the beginning of the 1980s.

Roberto and his friends just want to live, grow up, try to discuss the future and maybe manage to pass their high school diploma.

It's a shame that History, with a capital H, decides to burst into their lives without asking permission.

Meanwhile, at the Cagliari police headquarters, Deputy Commissioner Diego Piras must figure out why two known terrorists have arrived on the island from the mainland. Someone suggests he leave it alone. He politely ignores them.

From here a civil thriller is born:

There's a hunt, there are secrets, there's tension. Lots of tension!

But above all, there are real people, with fears, doubts, and a stubborn desire not to forget.

Because ultimately this book is about one simple thing:

History passes, wounds remain.

And remembering is the only way to not pretend nothing is happening and try to heal yourself.

You can find it in all the bookstores in the kingdom (if you don't find it you can order it from your bookseller and it will arrive in two days), or you can order it online

what those who have read it say

When a story takes you back to a time full of shadows and questions.

With Scipio's Helmet, Angelo Soro transports us to Cagliari in the 1980s and introduces us, almost unexpectedly, to the lives of two high school students who find themselves caught up in events far bigger than themselves. A novel that intertwines education, mystery, and memory, moving between past and present, slowly bringing together all the threads of the story...

Good morning, Angelo, happy new year! I started it this morning, getting to page 47: I'm really enjoying it, congratulations! I haven't been able to read it in a while, but I'll finish this soon. If I could, I'd stay immersed in it all day.

I just finished it.

It's an A+: I'm right there with the character, I can picture him perfectly. I've started 15 books but haven't finished them since Covid, and I devoured yours in a day and a half. Thanks for unblocking me!

I'm slowly reading your book and I love the precise details you describe, like " as she screamed, she bared her lower incisors and the words dissolved into tiny droplets of saliva that fell onto the glass top of the desk ." They are beautiful, they help the reader fully immerse themselves in the story.

Good evening! It's late and I'm still awake, I've been reading a bit more: I like how you alternate military tension and friction with lighter moments, like meeting girls, walking by the sea, and cycling. It lightens everything up.

Good morning, I just finished reading Scipio's Helmet. Congratulations! I found the novel's style and structure very engaging (I read it in three days), and it was a pleasant dive into the '80s. I recommend you try turning it into a miniseries screenplay, or pitch it to someone who can: I think it would also be successful on TV.

I read it in one sitting and really enjoyed it. While I respect your abilities, given that it's a debut work, I must confess I had some reservations. It's one thing to tell a story in a podcast, and another to write a novel, especially one so complex.

And instead... it's really beautiful!

Basilicata

A large photographic book

Photo of the book Basilicata Terra di Mezzo in bookstores.jpg

What you will browse is a book of images that tells the places and stories of Basilicata: a beautiful place and (unfortunately, or fortunately) unknown to most.

Basilicata Terra Di Mezzo was born in 2016 from the meeting between a talented travel photojournalist in love with his homeland (Gaetano) and a passionate storyteller (myself).

The spark that ignited the project was the understanding that the people of Basilicata, deep down, suffer a kind of frustration: the rest of Italy and the world, when they look at a map of this nation, see Basilicata as a blank space.

In the collective memory there are no images to fill that hole.

Some may have seen images of the Sassi of Matera.

But it is quite unusual to identify an entire region through a symbol that represents a single city.

Rome is its Colosseum, Paris is its Eiffel Tower, but Basilicata is not the Sassi of Matera.

When we designed this book we had one goal in mind: to fill that void with the extraordinary images of Gaetano Plasmati , describing the landscapes, the chimneys, the towers, the people singing in procession and the sea at sunset.

In 1997 I lovingly cultivated a blog that talked about current events, economics, and music.

I called it Very Human Resources, because even then the idea of defining real people as “resources” made me smile quite a bit.

Then life happened: work, family, time shrinking like a badly washed sweater. The blog closed, without drama, simply put on hold for a few years. Let's say several years. Too many.

I've decided to reopen it. Not because the world has become simpler, nor because I suddenly have more time, but to pick up the thread of the conversation I left there, in the last century.

The resources remain very human, as does the sense of humor. Contexts, fashions, and technologies change, but some questions deserve to be revisited, even after many years.

Better late than gone.
